fab feb

february blossom

Feb is fab.

It’s my daughter’s birthday month, although the idea that my little baby is going to be eleven is rather scary.
It’s Valentine’s Day, which means flowers, which is always a good thing.
It’s half term, which means all my chicks in the nest for a week.
And by the end of the month spring will be on the way, just in time.

february blueberry buds

look – the blueberry bush is budding

ladybird

a ladybird is curled up in a dead nettle (that’s why clearing the garden is a bad idea – lazy gardening is the best kind)

Bella is curled up on my crochet blanket, the left handed crochet blanket I started in July and finished in (ahem) December.

february tulips

And there are tulips on the windowledge which brighten up the dullest of February days.

  • Beautiful photographs and signs of warmer months to come. We will soon be drawing our curtains a little earlier in NZ :(

Hope you enjoy a fabulous February and lovely Spring. It is my third daughter’s 1st Birthday and hubbie’s too – so a great month for us too.

    • Thank you! It’s a lovely age (when they’re not ranting fiendishly – or is that just mine?).

  • Gorgeous, gorgeous photos. I love them. What kind of Canon do you use? Do you have a fancy lens?

Not to be pushy — but your photos are much lovelier than the ones I manage to achieve with my Nikon. Probably my lack of skill, but let’s pretend it’s the equipment.

    • Oh thank you so much! It’s a Canon EOS 400D – the standard lens that came with it (although I do also have a long lens, which takes very nice photos if you zoom in on something). I don’t even use the manual setting because I keep meaning to learn how but it seems a bit scary. It’s just luck, fiddling, and that’s it really!

  • Thanks for the pic of the ladybird. That was all the excuse I need to put off tidying up the garden for another week or two!

    February 2, 2011
    • Oh yes, no tidying up until at least March! Those ladybirds need their sleep.

What uplifting photographs. I always look out for the first snowdrops as a sign that Spring is on the way. Happy birthday to your daughter, too. All the best people are born in Feb (ahem)!

    • January was a very long month, but I know what you mean. I always take a few months to settle into a new year, and just when I’m getting used to it it changes. I suspect that’s age, isn’t it? Oops.

  • Feb is a fab month! Love your crochet blanket too, gorgeous colours and cat-approved.

    • Isn’t it just? I think we need a double celebration with gin and cackling. xx

  • Love the blossom about to bud. You’re a great photographer. I love looking out for the first signs of Spring.

Lovely colours in your blanket. When you say you knitted it left handed are you left handed? Or are you right handed but you crochet left? I’m left handed and I’d love to learn to crochet.

    • Ooh thank you A, but truly it’s the camera, not me. I am too scared to shoot manually, so all my photos are down to my trusty Canon!

I am left handed, and learning to crochet is really hard unless you have a left handed teacher. When we meet up I’ll bring a hook and some yarn and show you – then you can spend months and months making a blanket like me.

  • Gorgeous photos! How big is the blanket? And do you remember how much yarn you needed?

    • It’s sort of armchair-covering-size (she said, in a scientific manner). And I’ll have a look and email you re: yarn. I am not very woolly minded. (others may argue that point)
