spring is coming

But it’s not coming very fast. It’s still cold in the mornings, with a touch of frost lurking, so it’s too early to plant anything in the garden. And right now the garden looks like a disaster – lots of bare earth, with just the stumps of perennials poking through. At this time of year I remember why I keep meaning to plant shrubs instead of just concentrating on the cottage garden look.

Never mind. I thought I’d cheer myself up with a blog about the lovely things that will be growing soon.

And I might take a trip to the garden centre for a few more perennials (you can never have too many) and sow some sweet peas and nasturtium seeds around.

Meanwhile I’m looking forward to seeing a garden full of tulips – after last year when the chickens ate all 150 shoots, they haven’t been allowed anywhere near them.

Lovely photos! Where I live in New jersey, we cannot grow tulps as they are eaten by the high population of deer!
They also like day lilies, regular lilies and others. It is so frustrating. iItry netting the lilies but it is a constant fight..
We are also having very unseasonal cold weather which is a shame as there are perennials I would like to move. Wait a bit and we will probably have a heat wave!!

    Happy gardening!!!

  • Can’t wait. My garden too is just showing signs of life and I’ve grown tons of perrenials in my new greenhouse to really set off the garden this year

  • Doesn’t it feel that we’re almost in spring? It feels like one foot it is firmly there but the other one doesn’t want to change season quite yet.

I’m loving your chicken pictures. We’re thinking of getting some soon and keeping them in parents garden. Can’t wait.

I’m all confused about perennials, annuals, etc. I’m slowly getting it but at the moment gardening is all too much hard work and not enough fun. x
