19 reasons to visit Southport Flower Show

I sneaked in to Southport Flower Show this morning and took photographs in the early morning sunshine.

If you’re anywhere nearby, come and visit – it’s on for the next four days and there’s something for everyone – books, food, gardening, more food, sunshine, cake, giant vegetables, crafts, and SHOPPING. Yippee.

I got up at 6.30am this morning, arriving on the show ground where I met David Jackson, the CEO, looking remarkably bright for someone who’d gone to bed at 3am. David Mitchell, one of the judges, was taking photos of the show gardens for his own reference and we had an early morning chat about the different styles of garden on show.

The atmosphere at Victoria Park this morning was lovely. There’s a really friendly feeling to the event, and even first thing in the morning people were happy to chat and be photographed.

If you need a reason to visit, these photos might help persuade you.

The theme for this year’s show is Cool. This is my absolute most favourite (quite bonkers) vegetable display.

Getting ready in the morning sunlight.

I was skipping around quite happily taking photos when I saw this sign on the way out. Oops.

If you can see gladioli without thinking of Morrissey, you’re either too old or too young.

A whole thing of Agapanthuses. Agapanthi? Agathingies. Anyway, they’re beautiful.

Coronation Street comes to Southport Flower Show

Remember yesterday’s behind the scenes at Southport Flower Show post? Well, here’s the can-you-guess-what-it-is-yet end result. Coronation Street comes to Southport.

Yes, it’s one of the famous chimneypots. I was a bit excited, as a Corrie fan of many years.

All ready to go, with some clouds muttering overhead (they’ve long since blown over).

Stalls waiting for their owners.

Plant heaven.

Jubilee fest.

Seats waiting for bottoms.

Morning sunlight on flowers. This would have been enhanced by my remembering to have a coffee before I left. All these photographs were taken to the accompaniment of my stomach growling at the smells coming from the food tents.

Another of the before-and-after photos. Can you spot the wooden backdrop from yesterday?

Oh I love Southport Flower Show already. So glad we moved here. Come and visit!

  • I think of Dame Edna when I see gladioli. Oh dear, I hate to think what that says about me.

  • Ooh, I could stay there all day.

Agathingies are just about my favourite flower – I can’t grow them here, so I stick with blue irises!
