It’s National Poetry Day so here is my favourite poet, the utterly wonderful and much missed Edwin Morgan, reading my favourite poem.
Edwin Morgan – One Cigarette by poetictouch
My favourite apart from Hamnavoe by George Mackay Brown (my family are from the Orkney Islands, and the beautiful singsong Orcadian accent is home for me). My favourite apart from most anything by W.B. Yeats or (from my teenage angst stage) Stevie Smith or oh, loads.
What’s your favourite poem?

My dad was a great lover of poetry, so I grew up with it. I won’t call these favourites, as I can’t bear to limit myself and am *always* unable to drum up favourites of anything on the spot, but these came to mind:
Stolen Child (WBY, my all-time favourite poet)
As the Mist Leaves No Scar (my compatriot Leonard Cohen)
Dover Beach (Matthew Arnold)
i carry your heart with me (ee cummings; I know this one is a clichéd choice)
Reflections on a Gift of Watermelon Pickle Received From a Friend Called Felicity (John Tobias, purely for nostalgia)

I love our shared love of Yeats. xoxo

Fabulous! Gave me goosebumps.
I love poetry too – I kept to the simple kids stuff today though!!

It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
