little things to make today better

It was a sitting-staring-at-the-mess sort of morning. I’ve got SO MUCH to do and so it seemed easier to not do any of it.

But then some little things pulled me out of the blah-feeling –

A big huge decluttering session upstairs – amazing how much better you feel once you’ve filled a couple of bags with rubbish. And it’s amazing how many bits of broken toy, scribbled on paper, and dried out old pens we have lurking in this house. I used to be a virtuous Flybaby and whilst I’m not so great at keeping the house spotless these days, I’m still a huge fan of the 27 fling boogie. If you think I sound insane, it’s simple. Even the most untidy of our children can grasp the concept: grab a bag, pick up 27 bits of rubbish, chuck them away.

Other lovely things:

Daffodil bulbs! Spring is definitely on the way – I can feel it in the air, there’s a change in the light and the nights are getting longer.

BBC 6 Music instead of the usual Radio 4. Even when that means realising that your favourite songs were written 20 years ago. Ooh, I’m old.

Reading this post on Finding Joy which is a new favourite blog of mine, written by a fellow Rach(a)el. And remembering that I don’t have to do EVERYTHING perfectly. Or even do everything. I just have to do some things.

Waiting for the postman to arrive with this book: The Asperkid’s (Secret) Book of Social Rules: The Handbook of Not-So-Obvious Social Guidelines for Tweens and Teens with Asperger Syndrome which looks absolutely brilliant and which I think we’re ALL going to be fighting to read.
